  • Hello, Xanga Comrades!

Greetings, once again, from Korea!  Things over here are going pretty high speed.  I'm still in search of stuff to personalize my home and my Noonas and Hyungnims (older sisters and bros) have been pulling me to different places, left and right.  Everyone has been trying to play match maker with me and it's driving me nuts.  On top of it all, I just went through another fake war.  GAH!  Sleep is on the back burner.  On the plus side of things, I had a awesome Halloween.  Over here, we celebrated it for two days (people have screwed up work schedules so it's perfectly acceptable to rock your costume a night early).  Since the local area has tons of bars, they all gave out free shots instead of candy.  Crazy, right?  Still, the kids were out and about, hitting up the houses on the outskirts of town and the barracks on base.  Ah, to be young and full of energy.  I think I was zonked and hammered by the fourth or fifth bar.  For those of you who know me, I'm not much of a drinker.  I've got tons of pictures, but for now, here's a video short.  GAH!  I love you, Xanga Empire!

I just realized that when the video transcoded, the audio didn't match up.  GAH!  It looks like an old kung fu movie.  I also curse... a lot! Oh well.  Smile!

  • Turbodog Army Stickers!

My brother and I acquired a sticker/silk screen press.  Here's a sticker that I came up with (I used the little girl from the "She'll f**k your ass up" picture, which I affectionately have named "Baby BTD").  If you would like a few stickers or if you just want a snail mail buddy, message me your address, okie dokie smokie?  Snap me a pic of what you stick 'em on.

Well, life in Korea has been going pretty well.  Like I've mentioned before, it feels like I never left.  Work is still high speed but along with working hard comes playing harder.  All my hyungnims (older bros) have been getting me reacquainted with the nightlife and all my nunas (older sisters) have been making a fashion project out of me.  Of course, all the haemonis (grandmas) shovel food down my throat and my bosses on base remind me daily about my upcoming fitness evaluation.  GAH!  On the downside of things, my scooter was stolen in front of my house.  I guess it's a good thing because I'm forced to wake up at 4AM to jog to work everyday (no joke.  I have no clue what I'm going to do when the Corean winter hits.  Well, if Rocky Balboa can train in Siberia to defeat Ivan Drago, then I'll do my best to live like Sly Stallone).  I need to burn off the two plus years of american fast food that I've been storing in my body.  All together, I can say that I'm pretty happy.  I'm even having better luck against all the aunties in Hwatu (message me if you want to learn to play).

Let's see...  I've gotten back into tutoring people for the TOEFL exams after work.  In fact, I just escorted a student to the Suwon Station book store to score study materials, earlier today.  My goal is to have everyone coming out of Corea speaking Turbodog! *evil grin*  I haven't taught in quite a while but I'm confident that the teacher in me will come out again.

All my stuff from America is still in huge boxes.  I keep procrastinating.  My video cameras and everything turbovision related are somewhere in there, waiting.  I'll start shooting when I finally come across the winning box.  I know, I've totally slacked and I hardly update, but I still love you all as much as I did when the cameras were rolling. By the way, it was great to see all the xanga zombies on screen the other day.  Back when I was in South Carolina, I would always come home from work and the whole gang would be on screen to greet me.  Seeing you all again felt like... coming home ^___^.  Thanks for making my day.

Well, I need to get some rest.  I need to go shopping for a grip of furniture tomorrow.  Crib episode soon after the house is complete, okie dokie smokie?  Holler if you want stickers or anything from The Land Of The Morning Calm (no, I cannot ship K-pop stars or drama actors/actresses).  Or i can send you something random ^___^.

I LOVE YOU ALL, XANGA EMPIRE!

  • Leaving Block 383 Cell 135

Hey there, my digital comrades!  How's life on your side of the computer screen?  Hopefully, your work week isn't too stressful.  Let me know how you're doing, okie dokie smokie?  Things over here are getting better.  I have been approved to live wherever I want now and I've found a pretty decent villa out in the countryside.  In case you're ever bored and you want to escape your area, hop on a plane and swing on by.  You'll always have a place to crash and eat.  I'll make a video when I move in so you can check out your potential vacation getaway ^___^.  For now, I will share with you a small snippet of the cell block I'm currently assigned to.  I have always had a place of my own in Korea.  For some reason, they decided to stick me on base for this trip.  GAH!  Turbodogs like big, open spaces.  This is animal cruelty.  I should stop bitching.  I could still be in my tent in the middle east.  Actually, life out there was pretty cool, but that's another story.  On with the show!

Note: I apologize for the video quality.  I'm using this crappy laptop's software.  My computer is somewhere on a boat, headed to Korea with the rest of my stuff.  GAH!
I've taken lots of video since I arrived.  I will upload after I sort through the mess. I love you all!

  • Greetings From Seoul!

Specifically, the jimjilbang (Korean Sauna).  I've got a full cup of shikhae and I'm rocking a fresh towel on my head.  I'll post pics when I get back tomorrow morning.  You won't believe the crap I'm sweating out.  I know, it sounds gross, but I used to come here at least twice a week when I last lived in Korea.  Now, I have to sweat out at least two years of South Carolina crud, which my body has accumilated.  I've been coming in and out of all the fomentation rooms for the past couple of hours.  I feel like my skin is re-awakening.  Woot!  Anyway, smile!

Well, things over here are pretty much the same.  It's as if I never left.  My town is still my town and I'm still one of It's sons.  My noona (older sister) has already started asking me when I'm going to begin helping out at the restaraunt.  GAH!

Deep down, I do feel a bit awkward, walking the streets.  My previous relationship started and pretty much ended here.  We were picture perfect and everyone, including me, hoped for a great future.  Long story short...  I'm single!  LOL  It's all in the past, but whenever I turn a corner, a memory pops up.  It still kind of stings when one of the harabujis comes up and asks me how we're doing.  One of the gangpeh samchuns said "It's okay.  You can now choose a girl with bigger boobs."  Gotta love em.

Let's see, oh yeah... people, Korean and American, still keep coming up to tell me I look like BJ Penn.  At least one guy was straight up by saying that BJ Penn and I would be twins... if he never worked out, ate a lot and blah blah blah.  Hehehe.  I've been thinking the same thing, everytime I that comment comes up.

More updates later.  I'm off to another fomentation room to sweat out the Miguk toxins from my body.  Love ya all, Xanga Empire!

  • Killing Time

Here i sit, in the corner of my empty apartment, accompanied by two pieces of luggage and a carry on.  The fact that I'm finally leaving Sumter still hasn't set in yet.  Maybe it's because I have plenty of errands to run, i don't know.  I am happy that I am finally going back to the life that love but still, there's a part of me that feels... bleh.  For those of you who really know me, you heard me rant on about how much I hated this place.  Sumter is just a mere truckers stop in the middle of a long country highway.  The morale on base blows and for a surfer city kid, I feel like a fish left on desert sand.  Every day at work (civilian/gov) has made me feel so haggard and the fact that there wasn't much to do to blow off steam during off duty hours makes it all feel worse.  Now, looking at all of this, one could imagine that i would be jumping for joy to get the hell out of this area.  Believe me, I was happy when I received my orders to move.  I called up all my friends and relatives, made a video and danced like the world was ending in a giant party.  So, why the "bleh?"  It took me a hot minute to reflect but I soon understood that there are some things that I am going to miss about this place.
    1.  Southern hospitality- Small town folks are amazingly friendly.  When I first moved here, my household goods were still in shipment so I had no furniture or anything.  I went to Walmart, looking for cheap things to sleep and sit on.  The old man who was working the furniture isle offered to lend me some things to get me by until my stuff arrived.  Soon, I found out the whole town was like this.  Car problems?  A guy named Earl at the dealership fixed an electric problem I had.  He then identified other problems in the car and fixed them for free out of military appreciation.  Cool beans, I say.
    2.  Friendly faces and new friendships- I guess this ties in with 1.  It's really easy to make friends here.  Nobody is shy.  For me, I found out that true love and friendship comes in the form of four wacky lesbian punk rock girls who I am proud to have been neighbors with (read earlier posts about The Vicious Kittens.  My heart hurts because I won't see them for a long time).  On base, I'll miss the team I had.  We were close, probably because the place was so shitty and all we had was each other.  Yeah, we got on each others nerves but we would still kill a fool for messing with one of our own.
    3.  Southern barbecue- They're fat down here for a reason.  Real southern BBQ is the truth.
    4.  Finding Zen in everyday living- There isn't much to do out here. No joke.  I began to pay attention to stuff I did everyday (but rushed through) like cleaning, cutting veggies, ironing, folding, detailing my cars... Soon, I started gunning for perfection.  I know, it sounds dumb but to me, it became... therapeutic.  I don't know how to explain it.  Whenever I get into the zone, the rest of the world tunes out and I feel... relaxed.  Slowing down gave more meaning to simple tasks.  So yes, I learned to become perfectly happy while scrubbing my bathroom.  If I had a rock garden, I would probably rake lines into it.

I could go on and on about all the little quirks of small town living, but in the end, they don't add up to much.  The base here blows monkey chunks. There's an old military saying that states "the worst base is the one you are at and the best base is the the one you just left."   Wrong, I say!  When I get to Korea, I will still hate this base.

Anyway, why am I writing all of this?  I dunno.  I'm just killing some time by stealing my neighbor's wifi signal.  I'm off to run more errands.  Catch you later, Xanga Empire.  I love you all.  I'll try to log in some more, sometime soon.

TURBODOG FUN FACTS

  • Come in and say hello! 아이고... I'm like a super hero... just without powers or motivation. Just kidding. If i'm not jumping continents, you can find me relaxing on a couch in any coffee shop, strumming my six-string. Or, you'll find me cruising up and down the pacific coast highway, looking for that untouched spot of beach along the California Coast. 짱! FOR MORE VIDEOS: http://www.veoh.com/users/turbodogjames
